Slay New Year Eve in Red
End the year in a colour that best represents you.
Red has always been the universal indicator of love, passion, courage, desire and determination. It’s also the colour best suited for my Chinese element. For days when I need a confident boost, I find myself wearing a pop of red either on my lips or eyes. I am grateful that 2018 has been such an exciting, adventurous and risk-taking year. Dear reader, I trust that it would be same for you and for everyone you love. It’s always my mantra to always end the year with positivity and determination that you will start the new year with new goals. Sometimes, a colour of confidence helps to subconsciously wrap up your year in a good note. For the past 5 years, I’ve spent New Year’s Eve rocking a bold red lip because I want to end and start the year with a statement!
Here, I've rounded up everything you need to know to own the coolest red look on New Year's Eve.
THE CLASSIC RED LIP
Bright red lips never go out of style and will always be a statement. However, as much as we love them, the biggest concern would be bleed lines! What can you do? My tip is to always start by priming and lining your lips. Just like your foundation, a good base will prevent any feathering and bleeding. After you're done with that, apply a coat of lipstick. Gently blot your lips and layer a thin coat of translucent powder before finishing it off with a final layer of lipstick. Although the extra steps may seem excessive, it definitely helps in keeping your bold lip, last all night long.
THE SOFT ROMANTIC
Not a fan of the smokey-eye? Try smudging it. Don’t get me wrong! I don’t mean rubbing a fingerful of eyeshadow over your eyelids and smudging it out.
In contrary to the typical smokey eye look, a soft romantic look proves that "less is more”. To achieve that, apply a layer of light coloured shadow over your eyelid crease, gradually add more layers over it. I would usually focus more on the eye line, giving more intensity to that area. Take note that the makeup should be subtle and not to extend beyond your upper eyelid.
On most occasions, you'll wear red on your lips. I love applying the same colour tint on my eyes and cheeks for a healthy glow. Yes I know that it can sound intimidating! It sounds tedious especially when you get a little too heavy-handed. Don’t worry about it! In fact, you would be glad that you were out of hand! Apply shade or tint over your lids as you would normally do and cover your any mistakes with a touch of glitter. If you happen to mess up the lips, brush out the corner with a cotton bud for a softer look. It is as simple as it can get!
