HELP: The Face of Sleep Deprivation
Looking wide awake is a lot easier said than done. With a hectic lifestyle, most of us hardly get to sleep more than eight hours nightly. That said, it is not impossible either. Here's a little secret: there are ways to look like you were well rested- even if you are not.
The first step to freshen yourself in the morning is to take a cold shower. Studies have shown that by showering in cold water in the morning increases our overall oxygen intake, and thus making you more alert. Cold water helps improve circulation which is pivotal when our face is swollen..
Pro-tip: To further restore and stimulate your senses, simply lather on a soothing floral body wash or a refreshing citrus body gel.
A swollen face can primarily be a result of our hectic lifestyle. In fact, it comes down to what we eat. Well, we've all had nights where we ended up having more drinks than necessary. At times like this, it is only natural that you would wake up with a swollen face the next morning. It may seem counterintuitive, but I would suggest drinking a glass of warm water to flush out water retention.
Pro-tip: Besides alcohol, by consuming high-sodium meals before bedtime, it can cause morning puffiness.
If puffy eyes are your primary concern, try applying wet tea bags; the caffeine in the tea will help constrict blood vessels and reduce any swelling. Alternatively, you can place a jade roller in the refrigerator and use it during emergencies like this. I would usually massage my eye area (from inner to outer corner) to aid in lymphatic drainage and minimise puffiness.
Pro-tip: While your eyes are resting, don't forget to mask with a hydrating sheet mask or retinol-infused mask which helps to combat puffiness, redness and soothes the skin.
Kick start your morning makeup routine with concealer. Use a yellow-toned concealer in a shade that is slightly lighter than your usual tone to neutralise the dark circles. Blend in the concealer with your ring-finger to prevent settling into lines. After applying, dab on some highlighter in the inner corners of your eyes lids for an extra lift.
Pro-tip: Alternatively, you can skip the highlighter and divert the attention to your lips. Swatch on a bold colour or a classic red lipstick of your preference and you're good to go!
