The Eccentricity of Louis Vuitton Cruise '19
Louis Vuitton Cruise 2019 perfectly captures the zeitgeist of today's self-expression.
True to his words, the creative director of the fashion house, Nicolas Ghesquière, happens to be known for his unpredictable taste for blazing colours, textures and proportions. For Cruise 19, he remixes signature looks from the 1980s and the Fall-Winter '18 collection into one. The continuation of boxy jackets was given a bolder shoulder line, and peasant dresses were shortened this time around. While prints remained notable, subtle detailing such as pleats, ruffles and contrasting colours were often added together. The unusual combination became an impeccable way of presenting all the seasonal signatures into one ensemble.
One of the signature creations, the ‘Archlight’ sneakers returned with a variation of heights, colours and even abstract prints. From the chunky trainers from SS '18 to the sneaker pumps from FW '18; the cruise collection stars the new addition to the ‘Archlight’ family: The sneaker boots. My favourite pair is the ‘Archlight’ Chelsea boots, which is also one of the key looks in the collection.
The latest collection also includes some of the capsule pieces from the collaboration with Grace Coddington. The iconic monogram pattern features adorable illustrations of Coddington's cats and leather bags shaped in the silhouette of cats. Being a cat-lover myself, I wasn't able to resist the cute expression of the cats and dogs (especially with LV’s epi leather)!
Cruise 19 collection is in stores worldwide now.
