Holiday Bucket List: 3 Warm Winter Destinations You'll have to Visit
Living in a humid and warm country like Singapore, it's inevitable that you'll want to visit a colder state during the holidays. For a traditional festive atmosphere, you'll think about the bright decorations on the streets of New York City and the enchanting Christmas Market at Werdmühleplatz. As much as I love the cold weather, I long for some respite from the crowds and a chance to enjoy a quiet holiday. With everyone flying over to colder and popular destination, flights and hotels accommodation can be quite costly.
That said, here's how warmer countries come in. Unlike other colder countries, these destinations have lesser tourists in comparison. Warm winter doesn't necessarily mean that the weather is sunny hot; the temperature typically ranges from 12 - 30 Degree Celcius. Although it may sound unappealing, these unique destinations can lead to pleasant surprises.
Average Temperature in Decemeber: 14 Degree Celsius
Because of the Sahara Desert in the south, Morocco hardly gets too cold. If you are someone who is intrigued by historical architecture and artefacts, I would recommend visiting Marrakech before heading over to Casablanca. As Marrakech is an imperial city, you'll be able to experience the Moroccan souks (markets) and try local delights. Casablanca, on the other hand, is the ultimate place to visit if you have watched the classic romantic film starring Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart. In comparison, Casablanca is less touristy; If you prefer to travel like a local, this city will suit you better.
From Singapore to Morocco, you'll have to stopover once at either Saudia Arabic or Dubai airport before flying over to Casablanca.
Average Temperature in December: 14 Degree Celsius
If you are looking for somewhere closer to home, Sydney is a great place to visit. Some people believe that's it is too warm to head down to the beaches, but I begged to differ! Nielsen Park, one of the hidden & best beaches of Sydney, has a quaint charm.
You can take a direct flight from Singapore to reach Sydney. If you’re on a budget, I recommend Scoot (budget airlines) that flies direct for $500+.
Average Temperature in Decemeber: 15 Degree Celsius
Santorini, also known as Thira, is an island in Greece that is famous for its quintessential landscape of blue sky and white villas. If you have always dreamed of staying in these villas, you'll be glad to find out that you can stay there for a fractional of the usual price in winter. As most stores and restaurants close early, I would recommend staying in the capital town of Santorini, Fira.
From Singapore to Santorini, you'll have to stopover once at Hamad and Athens airport before flying over to Santorini.
And there you have it! Now, you don't have to travel to expensive places halfway across the globe to spend your holidays.
